Musings.

On becoming a writer:
There are times when inspiration strikes, when subjects or story arcs begin to formulate during events in which my mind is allowed to wander.  When time presents itself to record these snippets of creativity, someone shakes the etch-a-sketch, vigorously.  Write them down, you say?  Showering and driving are difficult times to record my latest blog ideas, and those seem to be the only times when Inspiration will schedule a visit.  While I admittedly don’t know exactly how I become a writer, I am certain overcoming this hurdle is on the checklist.

On diets and dieting:
You can’t spell either without the word die. Coincidently, try to pronounce diabetes without it.

On finances:
Balancing the lifestyle I want with one I can afford is a skill I have yet to master.  Too much of my past life was spent leveraging my future.  Thinking in terms of family and long term happiness wasn’t something I was practised in…  The effect of these decisions has only recently been fully realized.  My life and my future have been ground to a hard stop until I can correct the errors of my past.  It is a bitter pill, and swallowing it is not an undertaking I am deriving much pleasure from.  Nobody kicks you when you’re down quite like Life does; why does Life work so effectively to prevent improvements?  Anyone know?  Over half of my debt was paid off and the end was in sight, then Life knocked a ten millimeter stalactite off the ceiling of my kidney.  Immediately after Shredder was knocked loose, I met my deductible in its entirety for the first time in my privately insured life.  Stumbling over a one centimeter rock was all it took to negate all the progress.  This is why I play video games with save points.

On television:
The technology that is beamed to my house comes from the one cable provider.  Every program one could want can be broadcast in mind boggling visual and auditory clarity.  The sets in our houses are on the cutting edge of technology, blurring the lines between the small screen and the silver.  Why then, has science not advanced enough for the sound level to remain uniform? Get it together, engineers; it’s 2015.

On fishing:
Single-handed Skagit is the direction I want to go for 2016.  I mean, have you seen this?

Slick
/slik/

The shower. Yes. Many, many mornings have I wandered from bathroom to desk, naked, dripping with both soapy water and ideas.

    It isn’t pretty.

Baring all in your writing is a figure of speech. You know it’s not meant to be literal, right?

I’m kidding, I appreciate your support even if I don’t appreciate the visual.

I used to awaken in the middle of the night with flashes of creative brilliance that begged to be written down. Now I awaken in the middle of the night, having to pee, as if I’d ingested a die-uretic. Oh, to be young again.

I can relate to pretty much all those points. I’m still paying, and just wish all those beautiful thoughts I had while driving were still there when I sit down at the computer. I really enjoyed this piece. Please keep going.

That’s why I carry a voice recorder with me on long drives. Just record phrases or ideas as they pop in to your head.

I totally understand every point! As parents, we hope our children don’t have the same struggles…I’ve learned it is just life…Life happens. The ability to improvise, adapt, and overcome is the lesson I’ve learned. I remain-as always-ever proud of my son and I applaud his ability to remain “Semper Gumby”!
